Weather Update, Rainy Week Ahead in Jammu and Kashmir: MeT Forecast
Next week, Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience intermittent light to moderate rain with thunder and gusty winds, according to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar. This forecast spans the next eight days, ensuring there will be no heatwave over the Kashmir division during this period.
The weather in the plains of Jammu division will generally remain hot and dry, with a heatwave persisting until June 4. On Saturday, Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 42.9°C, which is 3.5°C above the normal temperature for this time of the season.
For the next 24 hours, until Monday, the weather is anticipated to remain partly cloudy, with the possibility of light rain and thunder at a few locations. From June 4 to 7, the forecast predicts partly to generally cloudy conditions, with intermittent light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at many places, accompanied by gusty winds in some areas.
Some regions might experience brief periods of moderate-intensity showers. From June 8 to 9, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy. However, from June 10 to June 13, the weather is expected to be dry.
The Meteorological Centre has advised farmers to suspend their operations on June 5 and 6 due to the expected rainfall and thunderstorm activity. This precaution aims to mitigate any potential adverse effects on agricultural activities.
During the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the minimum temperatures at weather stations in Qazigund, Pahalgam, and Kokernag in the Kashmir valley were recorded below normal. Specifically, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 13°C, Qazigund 10°C, Pahalgam 6.4°C, Kokernag 10.2°C, and Gulmarg 8°C.
On Saturday, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 27.5°C, which is 1.2°C above normal. Pahalgam’s maximum temperature was 24.1°C, also above normal by 1.3°C. Kokernag’s picnic spot recorded a maximum of 27.2°C, while the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded 17.3°C the previous day.
