JKBOSE Introduces Lightweight Textbooks for Primary Classes: A Step Towards Easier Learning
‘Tailored for students from 1st to 5th; prioritise comfort, accessibility, interactive learning’
Srinagar, Apr 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has announced the introduction of a new set of textbooks for the academic session 2024-2025, tailored specifically for students from first to fifth classes.
An official from the JKBOSE informed Rising Kashmir that the new textbooks have been meticulously developed for primary classes across the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
One of the primary considerations during the development process was the weight of students’ school bags. These textbooks have been designed to be lightweight and easy to carry.
The official elaborated on the range of textbooks introduced, saying they include an English book for first and second grade, a Kashmiri book for first and second grade, Hindi books for first to fifth grade, Dogri for first grade, and Urdu books for first and second grade.
The official mentioned the creation of Shaheena textbooks specifically tailored for the first and second grades, responding to a request from the Bandipora district.
He said these textbooks will be distributed free of cost to students enrolled in government schools, ensuring equitable access to quality educational resources. However, students attending private schools will need to purchase these books from the market, with the prices set at reasonable rates.
Young students may struggle to handle heavy textbooks, leading to discomfort and potential physical strain. Lightweight textbooks are easier to carry, hold, and manipulate, ensuring that students can engage with the material comfortably.
With lighter materials, students can transport their textbooks between school and home with greater ease, fostering a sense of responsibility for their own education. These are more inviting and less intimidating, encouraging students to explore the material with enthusiasm and curiosity.
In modern classrooms, interactive learning methods are increasingly favoured. Lightweight textbooks make it easier for teachers to incorporate hands-on activities, group work, and interactive technologies into lessons, enhancing student engagement and comprehension.
Lightweight textbooks are more accessible to students with physical disabilities or health conditions that may make heavy materials difficult to manage. Ensuring that learning resources are lightweight promotes inclusivity and equal access to education for all students.
